At Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists (SCVS), you’ll join one of the UK’s leading multidisciplinary referral centres, providing specialist-led care across a broad range of disciplines from our modern, purpose-built hospital on the edge of the New Forest National Park.
Our well-established Neurology Service currently comprises three ECVN Diplomates, two Neurology Residents, one Neurology Intern and a highly experienced team of dedicated Neurology Nurses. You’ll manage a varied neurological and neurosurgical referral caseload with access to outstanding facilities, including an on-site 1.5 Tesla MRI, multi-slice CT, dedicated neurosurgical facilities and comprehensive electrodiagnostic equipment including EMG, nerve conduction studies, BAER and EEG.
As part of our multidisciplinary referral centre, you’ll work closely with specialists across Diagnostic Imaging, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.

As a Referral Veterinary Surgeon, you will deliver advanced veterinary care within a referral setting, managing complex cases and providing clinical advice and support to referring veterinary practices.
You’ll work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary hospital team to deliver outstanding patient and client care, while also supporting the development of colleagues through mentoring, supervision, and knowledge sharing. You’ll contribute positively to the efficient running of your service and play an active role in maintaining high clinical standards and continuous improvement.
• Full-time or part-time position considered
• Four-day working week for full-time colleagues
• Weekend rota of 1 in 4
• Manage a varied neurological and neurosurgical referral caseload
• Deliver advanced investigation, diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological cases
• Work collaboratively with specialists across our multidisciplinary referral services
• Support resident and intern training, mentoring, teaching and the continued development of the Neurology Service
You are an experienced veterinary surgeon with strong clinical expertise and a passion for delivering high-quality referral-level care. You’ll bring:
• A Veterinary degree with RCVS registration, and ECVN or ACVIM (Neurology) Diplomate status, or be Board Eligible and preparing to sit the relevant specialty examination
• Proven experience managing complex neurological and neurosurgical cases
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with referring vets, clients, and multidisciplinary teams
• Experience supporting, mentoring, or supervising colleagues
• A commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical governance, and continuous improvement
