We are seeking a motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our highly skilled and supportive team at Abington Park Referrals in a varied role rotating across referral disciplines and first opinion when required.
This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys variety. Rather than being fixed in one specialty, you will float between our referral services and first opinion area. You will gain exposure to orthopaedics, soft tissue, diagnostics, imaging, internal medicine and routine nursing, giving you broad experience and a dynamic working week.
Advance Your Skills
As a Referral Nurse, you will rotate across our surgical and medical departments as well as supporting first opinion when needed. Your responsibilities will include preparing patients for surgery, managing kits, assisting in anaesthesia, conducting imaging such as X ray, CT and MRI and supporting consults and discharges. In late shifts, you’ll handle consults and discharges, ensuring exceptional patient care throughout. This varied and dynamic role offers a chance to be deeply involved in all aspects of surgical nursing within a supportive, well-equipped environment.
Work With Excellent Facilities
This role is based at our state-of-the-art Referral Hospital, equipped with advanced facilities, including an in-house laboratory staffed by a dedicated lab technician, CT and MRI imaging, and a specialised medical team supporting the surgical department. Our caseload is diverse and consistently busy, providing an engaging and rewarding work environment.
We offer an excellent CPD budget, a structured in-house progression plan, and support for post-graduate studies to help you advance your career. Our surgical team comprises 6 RVNs and 3 Clinicians, handling referrals from across the Midlands and beyond.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a keen interest in surgery and anaesthesia, ideally with referral experience, though we welcome applications from all experience levels. You’ll thrive in a hands-on environment, demonstrating a proactive approach to patient care and a genuine enthusiasm for diagnostic imaging and advanced procedures. If you’re eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a collaborative team, we’d love to hear from you.
This role would suit someone who enjoys a changing caseload, learning different areas of veterinary nursing and working flexibly across departments. If you like no two days being the same, this role offers variety, development and ongoing support.
Working Hours
This role ideally requires full-time commitment, spanning 40 hours weekly across 5 days, with shifts scheduled between 7:30 am to 7:30 pm and 1:8 Saturday mornings. We are open to discussing a 4-day working week or part-time applications.
