What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will have a high level of motivation and enthusiasm and be able to work as an integral part of our experienced team. Applicants must have completed a rotating internship or internship equivalent (at least 2 years of clinical experience) and demonstrate an interest in clinical research. They must have MRCVS registration and have evidence of Right to Work in the UK. A good command of written and spoken English is required.

Pride Veterinary Referral is a teaching hospital working in collaboration with University of Nottingham Veterinary School. The hospital is located on Pride Park in close proximity to Derby City Centre, Nottingham, the Derbyshire Dales and with good air and rail links. The successful candidate will join a team of three specialist Medics, three other Internal Medicine Residents, two medicine Interns and a dedicated nursing team. Twelve weeks per year off clinics for externships, research and study leave. The hospital benefits from specialist led teams in Neurology, Surgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Imaging and an onsite Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy department.
Responsibilities
The friendly teams collaborate to deliver high standards of care to all our patients. We have a varied and challenging caseload, and our own Vets at Night service for inpatient care throughout the night. Our aim within the practice is to treat our patients as though they were our own animals, and to treat our clients in the way we would wish to be dealt with ourselves. This philosophy should be carried through at all levels, in terms of our demeanour, appearance, professionalism and communication (with vets, clients and staff). We all have a part to play in ensuring the smooth running of the various aspects of the practice. All clinicians are expected to provide a consistently high quality, professional veterinary service for internal and referring veterinary surgeons, clients and their animals. Effective communication with clients and referring veterinary practices is essential. You will be expected to work closely with clinical colleagues, leadership team, Nurses, the client care team and all other support staff within the practice in order to provide the highest standards of professional care and service for our referred clients and their animals.
Provision of clinical and professional services for internal and referred clients in accordance with our ‘Veterinary surgeon’s guidance notes and the instructions of the clinical supervisors and practice managers. Participation in rotas, including the out-of-hours service in accordance with the practice requirements. Completion of CPD requirements in accordance with the current recommendations of the RCVS and the advice of the partners, dependent upon personal and practice CPD needs. Key Skills A professional approach and appearance is expected at all times.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive friendly attitude are essential for effective teamwork within the practice, together with the ability to make decisions and communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues at all levels. A commitment to practising the highest standard of veterinary medicine, upholding the RCVS code of ethics is expected at all times. Key Clinical and Administrative Tasks Be available during working hours to see referred clients, care for in-patients, investigate clinical cases and provide the appropriate diagnostic medical and surgical services for animals under your care. Supervision of hospitalised cases ensuring the highest standard of clinical care. Perform consultations (both initial and follow-up) and all appropriate investigations, medical and surgical procedures that may prove necessary for each patient. Endeavour at all times to minimise the stress and discomfort for each patient.
Rota and requirements
Participation in rotas, including the ‘out of hours’ service in accordance with the practice requirements. For clarity, you will be expected to see routine and emergency cases in all areas of small animal internal medicine. Establish a good rapport with internal and referring veterinary surgeons including timely professional and respectful communication and providing assistance in their professional development through recommendations and relevant interactions regarding referred cases. Maintain the highest standards of professional behaviour, and at all times, behave in accordance with the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct.
Maintain client/patient/surgical/medical records and make certain all necessary information is kept up to date through established protocols. Wherever indicated, give clear and unambiguous instructions to colleagues regarding the management of your patients. Give CPD (both in-house and at external congresses) Attend CPD and training opportunities by agreement with the partners. Publish prospective and retrospective studies and review papers.
