Own the Night – Elevate Your Emergency Career

If you love emergency medicine, thrive under pressure, and want to work in a hospital that genuinely invests in its people and its medicine, this could be the role that takes your career to the next level.

Sunbeam Veterinary Hospital is expanding its dedicated night team and is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our OOH and Emergency service at our flagship Northpoint referral hospital. This is a rare opportunity to focus purely on emergency and criticial care, working alongside a highly experienced, supportive team in one of Ireland’s best-equipped veterinary hospitals.

A Night Role Designed Around Balance

This role offers a structured, sustainable rota that allows you to fully switch off between shifts and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

You’ll work 7 nights on, 14 nights off rotation, with shifts running from 7pm to 8am. This protected time off means you can recover properly, pursue personal interests, or even continue further study alongside your role. Annual leave is generous (pro-rata), and wellbeing is genuinely prioritized, not just talked about.

Work at the Cutting Edge of Emergency Care

Based in our state-of-the-art Northpoint hospital, you’ll have access to exceptional facilities and clinical support. Sunbeam is a busy referral centre, meaning your nights will be varied, challenging, and deeply rewarding.

You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues and have access to advanced diagnostics and equipment, including a CT scanner, digital radiography, ultrasound, laparoscopy, endoscopy, a fully equipped in-house laboratory, orthopaedic and spinal surgery facilities, and modern hospitalisation wards. This is an environment where high standards are the norm and where you can truly grow your emergency skillset.

Professional development is actively encouraged, with fully funded CPD, support for further qualifications, and paid professional memberships.

Who We’re Looking For

This role is suited to a confident Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys emergency work and wants to deepen their experience in a referral setting. You must be VCI registered and eligible to work in Ireland.

Experience is required, and while an additional qualification or background in emergency medicine would be an advantage, it’s not essential. A strong interest in ECC and a willingness to continue developing your skills is just as important. This position is not suitable for new graduates or those requiring close day-to-day mentorship.

Why Sunbeam?

Sunbeam Veterinary Hospital has been caring for pets across Cork since 2003 and has grown into a leading small animal and referral group. Alongside our Northpoint referral centre, we operate clinics in Blackpool, Cobh, Passage West and on the Kinsale Road, with a 24-hour emergency service based at Northpoint.

You’ll be joining a large, collaborative team of over 40 staff, including 20 Veterinary Surgeons, 20 Veterinary Nurses, and a dedicated night team. Many of our clinicians hold certificates or have developed niche interests, and we actively support further specialisation and long-term career progression - whether that’s advanced ECC, a referral discipline, or leadership.
