Vets Now Referrals Glasgow is a busy private referral hospital and first-opinion out-of-hours emergency provider located in the heart of Glasgow. Our team of referral clinicians in Surgery collaborate closely with colleagues in Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine and Oncology, supported by a highly skilled nursing team. 

We are proud to host European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) residency programme in Emergency and Critical Care alongside a well-established internship programmes. 

Role Overview 


This 12-month internship offers outstanding training in small animal surgery, combining hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for academic and professional development. 

Interns will gain exposure to a wide variety of surgical cases, including emergency surgeries, while working closely with specialists across multiple disciplines. 

This internship is ideal for candidates seeking to pursue a surgical residency, strengthen their surgical knowledge and skills, or advance their career in small animal surgery. 

 Key Responsibilities 


As a Surgery Intern, you will: 

  • Actively participate in the planning, diagnosis, and treatment of surgical cases. 

  • Develop skills in both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. 

  • Work with colleagues from multiple disciplines to optimise surgical case management. 

  • Contribute to research projects, seminars, journal clubs, and teaching opportunities. 

  • Maintain accurate records and uphold the highest standards of clinical care. 

  • Engage positively in inclusive, collaborative case discussions. 

  • 1:6 Weekend rota cover required within the OOH Setting.

    Requirements

     
    To be eligible, you must have: 

  • A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS. 

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the RCVS. 

  • Successful completion of a Small Animal Rotating Internship in a multi-disciplinary referral hospital. 

  • Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship may be available where appropriate). 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritise effectively, and collaborate with the wider team.

  • Salary: £35,000 per annum 

  • Professional Costs Covered: VDS and RCVS registration fees
