Vets Now is the European leader in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC), recognised for its national emergency service provision, fast-track training programmes (Edge), and European Board of Veterinary Specialisation Residency in Glasgow.
At our Manchester referral hospital, we are proud to offer a well-established ECC Internship programme. Interns join a multi-disciplinary hospital environment, supported by residency-trained and board-certified ECC clinicians, and gain hands-on experience in a well-equipped ICU.
This 12-month internship is designed for veterinarians seeking to strengthen their skills in emergency and critical care, whether as preparation for residency applications or to deepen clinical confidence in ECC practice. We would be looking for the successful intern to join the team on the 28th September 2026.
The role is primarily based in the ICU, managing emergency referrals, with a rolling rota and no on-call duties. Interns will engage in clinical work, structured training, and collaborative case discussions with a strong focus on patient care and professional development.
As an ECC Intern, you will:
Deliver emergency and critical care under close supervision.
Manage ICU patients and emergency referrals across multiple disciplines.
Participate in case planning, diagnosis, treatment, and record keeping.
Engage proactively in case discussions with clinicians, residents, and nursing teams.
Contribute to research projects, seminars, journal clubs, and teaching opportunities.
Uphold high standards of clinical care, professionalism, and animal welfare.

A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.
Eligibility or registration with the RCVS.
Strong communication, teamwork, and record-keeping skills.
The ability to remain calm, prioritise, and perform effectively under pressure.
A compassionate, professional, and reliable approach.
Preferred (not essential):
Completion of a Small Animal Rotating Internship in a multi-disciplinary referral hospital.
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Professional Costs Covered: VDS and RCVS registration fees
Leave: 7 weeks annual leave, plus your birthday off
