This is an exciting opportunity to join the frank. Pet Surgeons team in a 12- month internship based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Our surgical intern program is aimed at motivated veterinary surgeons, who will play a key role in the management, monitoring, and treatment of our patients. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent veterinary graduate or an individual with equivalent experience to enhance their surgical skills in a dynamic and supportive environment. The selected candidate will work closely with our experienced surgical team, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of surgical procedures.
An Insight into the Internship
The schedule within the hospital will encompass a mix of theatre-based and consult-based days. Activities during these days will include participating in surgical procedures alongside Surgeons in the operating theatre, facilitating the post-surgery discharge of pets, conducting re-check appointments, and coordinating the processing of pets through the hospital for follow-up radiographs. Additionally, responsibilities will extend to composing referral letters.
During on-call weeks, the intern will provide support to the Out-Of-Hours (OOH) staff as needed. Simultaneously, the intern will be stationed in the hospital on Saturdays and Sundays, focusing on discharging pets and admitting emergency cases. The role will involve scrubbing into theatre for emergency cases requiring immediate attention during Out-Of-Hours periods.
Hospital-based weeks will operate from Monday to Friday, spanning from 8 am to 7 pm. On-call weeks will entail availability from 7:30 pm to 8 am, Monday to Sunday, with remote duties during these hours. Additionally, the intern will be present in the hospital on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. It's essential to note that our facility does not provide emergency Out-Of-Hours services for general cases but specifically caters to our referral patients during these times.
Why choose us for your internship?
It is our mission to make specialist surgical care more accessible.
Our specialist surgical teams are up to date with the latest surgical techniques, and routinely carry out highly complex surgeries, enabling us to confidently take on the most challenging cases.
Everything we do is backed up by a unique Surgical Complications Guarantee that covers any complications arising from surgery within 6 months of the procedure. We have fixed price packages for all of our procedures.
A surgical internship is the first step towards specialist training. The skills and knowledge you will acquire during the internship can be brought to a general practice setting. During the internship there will be a structured program of teaching, including induction, seminars, journal clubs and presentations. We also encourage our surgery interns to prepare and publish scientific research and/or surgical related audit.
