Veterinary Practitioner – Small Animal
The Pet Hospital, Waterford
Full-time, Permanent
Part-time or flexible working patterns considered
Salary commensurate with experience
A Friendly, High-Quality GP Role in the Heart of Waterford
If you’re a confident small animal vet who enjoys genuine client relationships, solid clinical standards, and working as part of a close-knit team, this could be a really rewarding next step.
The Pet Hospital is a well-established, community-focused practice offering a steady, varied GP caseload in a supportive, down-to-earth environment. We’re ideally suited to confident junior or experienced vets who are happy managing first-opinion work and value teamwork, autonomy, and balance in equal measure.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like
This is a true general practice role, combining consultations, routine surgery, medical workups and shared emergency care. You’ll typically work five days per week between 9am and 5pm, with a shared 1-in-3 Saturday rota. Out-of-hours work is shared fairly within the team.
While there will be some minor sole-charge responsibility from time to time, you’ll always be supported by a small, experienced team who know each other well and work collaboratively.
The Clinic & Team
The Pet Hospital is a compact, well-equipped small animal clinic right in the centre of Waterford City. Facilities include digital X-ray, ultrasound and an in-house laboratory, allowing you to work cases to a good clinical standard without the pressure of an overwhelming caseload.
You’ll be joining a friendly team of two vets, two nurses and three support staff. We pride ourselves on a calm, respectful working atmosphere and strong relationships with our loyal client base.
Two Practices, One Supportive Network
Although this role is primarily based at The Pet Hospital, we work closely with our nearby sister practice, City Vets. This means occasional cross-cover or collaboration when needed - but importantly, the role remains firmly rooted in the smaller, more personal setting of The Pet Hospital.
City Vets is a larger hospital with a broader caseload, offering optional exposure to more complex cases and the opportunity to develop specific interests over time, without losing the close-team feel that defines this role.
Who This Role Will Suit
We’re looking for a VCI-registered veterinary surgeon who is confident in routine soft tissue surgery and comfortable managing first-opinion consultations independently. You should enjoy working in a small team, communicate well with clients and colleagues, and be happy with occasional sole charge.
This position is not suitable for new graduates or those requiring close day-to-day mentoring, but confident junior vets and more experienced clinicians are very welcome to apply.
