Here at Priory Vets, Cardigan we are looking for a Large Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly farm and equine team (we could facilitate applicants looking for 100% farm). You will also be supported by Steffan Vets so will have access to a varied team and equipment (we are open to you working across both sites if this is something that would interest you).

You will have the autonomy and freedom to develop the services, engage with farmers and take on routine dairy fertility work. If you are interested in equine, you will also have the opportunity to develop the services with x-rays and stocks available. 

You would be involved in caring for a range of farms, with a good mix of beef, dairy, and sheep, and we run a smallholder’s club to look after the increasing number of non-professional farmers in our area. You will have the chance to gain experience in looking after goats, alpacas, and pigs, and we have a wide range of equine clients if that is an area of interest too.

We are happy to accept both full/part-time applications, working between 8:30am-5:30pm, which occasional earlier starts or finishes which would be agreed in advance with our clients. There is a 1:5 weekday and weekend on-call rota, with our Vets getting the Monday off following a weekend on call. 

With a team of 9 Veterinary Surgeons, 6 Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses, and supporting team members, you'll have the chance to collaborate with a diverse and talented group. You will also be supported by our Clinical Director who is Chair of the Farm Animal Clinical Board at IVC Evidensia.

Our Large Animal Vets have the experience and time to mentor colleagues and we fully support any Vet who wishes to undertake a certificate (we currently have a certificate holder in sheep). 

Our modern farm and equine practice is conveniently based on the outskirts of Cardigan town centre which is a thriving hub of independent shops and restaurants with all local schools rated as ‘Good’ by the Welsh Inspectorate. You will enjoy beautiful views of pristine beaches (with dolphins) whilst also accessing nearby cities such as Swansea and Cardiff utilising or direct public transport links. We are also under 6 hours’ drive to Central London and within 4 hours drive to Birmingham.
