We are delighted to offer a rare opportunity for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to work alongside our Practice Director in leading the clinical team at The Oak Veterinary Group.

Based in beautiful Pembrokeshire, West Wales, our practice is surrounded by stunning coastline and countryside, offering an exceptional quality of life. With 186 miles of the Wales Coast Path, 58 beaches and 14 harbours nearby, it's the perfect location for anyone looking to combine a rewarding career with an outstanding lifestyle.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to combine clinical excellence with strategic leadership, helping shape the future of a well-established practice. You'll work alongside a supportive team including a Senior Vet, Veterinary Surgeons, a Head RVN, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses, Animal Care Assistants, a Practice Director, Reception Coordinator, dedicated Client Care Team and a Hydrotherapy Rehabilitation Coordinator.

Our team also includes an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery, enabling complex orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures to be performed in-house, with several vets additionally trained in acupuncture.

You'll spend approximately 75% of your time managing a varied clinical caseload while taking on leadership responsibilities, mentoring colleagues and helping shape the continued growth and success of the practice.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you'll combine hands-on clinical work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring outstanding patient care while supporting the development of your colleagues and the continued success of the practice.

You'll lead by example, champion clinical excellence and work closely with the Practice Director to create a positive, collaborative culture that delivers exceptional outcomes for patients, clients and the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and support the clinical team alongside the Practice Director
Deliver high-quality patient care across consultations and surgery
Mentor and support less experienced Veterinary Surgeons through case discussions and clinical development
Help drive clinical standards, team engagement and a positive practice culture
Contribute to business performance, operational success and sustainable practice growth

Working Pattern

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Shifts between 8:00am and 7:00pm Monday-Friday on a rota basis
Saturday mornings (8:30am-1:30pm) on a rotational basis
Primarily based in Haverfordwest with rotation across branch sites

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You are an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with strong clinical expertise who enjoys leading others while continuing to deliver exceptional patient care. You'll bring:

A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
Experience working in clinical practice with confidence in medical and surgical cases
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
Leadership or mentoring experience, with a passion for supporting and developing others
Professionalism, reliability and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
