Heartland Vets is looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team in the heart of Highland Perthshire. This is a permanent mixed animal role, with fixed-term opportunities also considered for the right candidate.
 
This is a genuinely varied position with a strong mixed caseload, offering excellent opportunities to develop across both small and large animal practice within a supportive, close-knit team.
 

Practice Highlights

 
  • True mixed practice with approximately 60% small animal and 40% large animal caseload
  • Large animal work including beef cattle, sheep, pigs, deer, poultry and camelids
  • Equine work including vaccinations, dentistry and occasional colic cases
  • Small animal caseload including dogs, cats and rabbits
  • Two-site practice with a main hub in Aberfeldy and branch practice in Pitlochry
  • Experienced and supportive team including 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 RVNs, a Student Veterinary Nurse and 6 support colleagues
  • Digital radiography and ultrasound facilities
  • Ovacyte faecal analyser and stance analyser
  • PRP therapy equipment, bull fertility testing equipment and motorised equine dental kit
  • Diverse geographical coverage providing a varied and rewarding caseload

    As a Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll play an important role in delivering high-quality clinical care across a varied mixed caseload while contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment.
     
    You’ll have the opportunity to develop your interests across small animal, farm and equine work, building strong client relationships and making a meaningful impact within the local community.
     

    Working Pattern

     
  • Full-time and part-time applications considered
  • Flexible working patterns available, including condensed hours and school-hour arrangements where possible
  • No routine weekend commitments outside of the out-of-hours rota
  • 1 in 5 out-of-hours rota covering weekends and weeknights
  • Time off in lieu provided following weekend out-of-hours commitments

    General Responsibilities

     
  • Deliver clinical care across small animal, farm and equine cases
  • Manage consultations, surgical procedures and emergency presentations
  • Participate in the out-of-hours rota
  • Work collaboratively across both practice sites to support continuity of care
  • Build strong client relationships across a diverse rural community
  • Contribute positively to a supportive and team-focused clinical culture

    You Might Be a Great Fit If...

     
    You are a confident and motivated Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys the variety and challenge of mixed practice. You’ll bring:
     
  • A Veterinary degree and registration with the RCVS
  • Experience in, or a strong interest in, mixed animal practice
  • Confidence managing a varied caseload across multiple species
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build lasting client relationships
  • A flexible, collaborative and proactive approach to clinical practice
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of patient and client care
