An exciting opportunity has arisen at Speyside Vets for a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our welcoming and supportive team on a permanent basis. We handle a wide range of small animal surgeries in-house, including orthopaedics. Our approach to large animal care is progressive, with most of our farmers actively participating in health planning. Our equine work is conducted to a high first-opinion standard, supported by DR X-ray and video endoscopy.

We boast an outstanding nursing and support team dedicated to both clients and colleagues, fostering a culture that means everyone pitches in (yes, vets are not exempt from tea rounds!).

Fix or flex – find your perfect balance

We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to flex your rota hours to balance the school holidays, fix to navigate the school runs or just looking to strike that balance between home and work life. We can offer flexibility that actually works for you.

The full-time rota for this role includes working 40 hours per week over 4 or 5 days. We are open to candidates looking for part time hours and can be fully flexible for the right person, however, a share of the large animal OOH rota (1 in 4 but aiming ultimately to be 1 in 5) is a must. We currently outsource our small animal OOH.

Our people are at the heart

We are a truly mixed practice with two sites located in the heart of Speyside in Northeast Scotland. Speyside is a fantastic location, surrounded by outstanding natural beauty bordering the Cairngorm National Park and the Moray Firth coast. The area offers a range of outdoor activities, including skiing, hill walking, mountain biking, surfing, and paddle boarding. Both villages have excellent schools and are close to the city of Elgin, with the larger cities of Aberdeen and Inverness (with airports, theatres, and shopping) within an hour's drive.

Our Aberlour surgery has been serving the local farming community for over 35 years and is the hub for our farm and equine work. Our caseload is approximately 70% small animal, 15% large animal, and 15% equine, allowing for preferences. The Fochabers surgery is a busy small animal clinic with a varied caseload, including opportunities for orthopaedic surgeries.

Both of our surgeries are modern and fully equipped to a high standard, with experienced and supportive colleagues readily available. We have a loyal client base, many of whom have been with us for years, and we are committed to providing the best possible care to our patients.

Our team consists of 5 full-time equivalent vets, 5 registered veterinary nurses, 1 student veterinary nurse, 1 practice manager, and 5 support staff. We are a highly collaborative team seeking someone who can take ownership of their cases while also enjoying clinical discussions and valuing colleague support.
