When asking the team to describe why they like working here – these are some of the responses:
‘I am grateful for working with a lovely bunch of people’
‘I’m grateful that we all work as a team’
‘All the support we give each other every day, just like a family
’Grateful for the other people in the team making everything easier’
Do you fancy coming to join our join our supportive, close-knit team on a permanent basis in Holt, Norfolk. Ideally you may have some experience, so someone who may have been looking to move from their first practice since graduating or someone who is looking to expand their experience of small animal practice to include leadership – whatever it may be, we have a role for you. We encourage our staff to develop their specific interests and we will support you every step of the way, including the study to certificate level.
Fix or flex – find your perfect balance
Our flexible approach to rota patterns can truly enrich your work life balance. We know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it easy for you to strike the right balance. A standard working day for our vets starts at 8:30am and finishes at 6:30pm with the majority of our team working four days a week with a fixed day off, however, if you have something else in mind, come and talk to us. We have the beautiful Norfolk countryside and coast on our doorstep and want you to be able to enjoy it as much as we all do!
We have different shift patterns, which are shared equally among the team:
9am – 12pm consults then 2pm – 3pm / 4pm – 5:45pm9am – 12pm consults then 4pm – 5:45pm8:30am – 4pm in theatre (you dictate your breaks) then consult 4pm – 5:45pm.
There will be a share of 1:6 Saturday mornings which consists of consulting 9am – 12pm, if any inpatients require to be cared for over the weekend the vet is responsible for transferring these to our out of hours provider after consults, although this happens infrequently.
We have outsourced out of hours however alongside the nursing team there is some inpatient cover Monday to Friday. The diary is a mixture of operating and consulting time at our main branch in Holt with a couple of half days between 9am – 11am or 2pm – 6pm consulting at our smaller branch in sunny Wells-next-the-sea. This is sole charge consulting only. Admin time is provided between consulting, however, if additional is needed we will always work to accommodate our vets’ needs.
Your next move
At Glaven Veterinary Practice we have a personal and friendly approach to animal care, being a part of the community since the 1960’s. Our vets have a range of experience from 3 years up to 25 post qualification. We consider ourselves to have a well-equipped surgery with the usual range of diagnostic equipment including dedicated imaging room. We have separate wards for cats and dogs to ensure minimal stress for pets staying with us. For large dogs, we have several large ‘walk in’ kennels so all pets can be comfortable whilst staying with us.
Discover a workplace that supports you
We are a team of 4 vets, who are supported by a couple of wonderful locums who are regulars so our permanent staff can take their annual leave allowing us to work at a sensible pace. If you have an interest in a particular veterinary area, we will endeavour to ensure you are given the support and funding to pursue those interests. We are always happy to share our knowledge and expertise. Our nursing team consists of 7 RVNs, 2 SVNs and 2 ANAs, all of whom are dedicated to patient care and work to support the vets including undertaking consultations. We benefit from RVNs with special interests in canine and feline behaviour/medicine, ECC and breeding.
We are a team who like to work collaboratively and support each other with a focus on wellbeing and development. Our dedicated wellbeing champions organise regular social and fundraising events for the practice, including a supper club and annual Macmillan coffee morning, as well as Wellbeing and Training mornings/afternoons. These events provide additional training but also a chance for the whole team to get together and check in with each other. Our practice management team are also qualified Mental Health First Aiders. We are also partial to socialising whether that is just drinks or participating in axe throwing!
