If you’re an experienced small animal vet looking to step back from full-time practice without stepping away from the profession entirely, this could be the perfect fit.
Rathcoole Veterinary Clinic is offering a genuinely flexible opportunity, whether you’re seeking part-time hours to balance childcare or personal commitments, looking for a lighter schedule, or simply want to keep your clinical skills active in a supportive, low-pressure environment. There is also the option of a Saturday-only role (9am–2pm) for those who prefer a consistent, contained working pattern.
This opportunity is ideally suited to a solid, experienced first-opinion GP who is comfortable managing their own caseload. You’ll enjoy a varied mix of consultations, medical case work-ups, routine surgery and occasional emergency care, with the autonomy to make clinical decisions and provide continuity of care to your patients.
You will be working in a sole charge capacity within Rathcoole, supported on-site by an experienced RVN, a Student Veterinary Nurse and an Animal Care Assistant, ensuring you have strong nursing support throughout your day.
While this is a sole-charge position, you’ll never feel isolated. Rathcoole Veterinary Clinic works closely with the larger Beaufield Veterinary Centre, giving you direct access to experienced colleagues for case discussion, advice, and support with more complex or advanced work-ups.
For those who would enjoy additional variety, there is also the option to occasionally work shifts within the Beaufield practice. This provides exposure to a busier hospital environment, access to a broader range of cases, and the opportunity to collaborate more closely with a larger team.
This role has been created with flexibility at its core. Whether you’re looking for a reduced schedule, consistent part-time hours, or a Saturday-only position, we are open to shaping the role around what works best for you.
It’s particularly well suited to someone looking to:
Step back from a full-time clinical workload
Balance work alongside family or other commitments
Take a career break without leaving practice entirely
Maintain clinical involvement in a more sustainable way
We’re looking for a VCI-registered Veterinary Surgeon with solid experience in small animal general practice. You should be confident in consultations, routine surgery, and medical case management, and comfortable working independently in a sole-charge setting.
This role is best suited to someone who enjoys building client relationships, takes pride in delivering high-quality care, and appreciates a calm, well-supported working environment.
Alongside a competitive salary of up to €70,000 FTE (pro rata), you’ll benefit from a comprehensive package designed to support both your professional and personal wellbeing.
You’ll enjoy a strong focus on work-life balance, generous annual leave, and access to wellbeing supports including an Employee Assistance Programme and company sick pay. Professional development is encouraged, with CPD funding and paid leave available, along with full funding for further qualifications if desired.
Your professional memberships, including VCI and VDS, are fully covered, and additional benefits include pension contributions, staff discounts, and access to a wide range of retail and lifestyle perks.
Opportunities like this don’t come around often — a flexible, supportive role where you can continue doing what you enjoy, on terms that work for you.
If you’re looking for a more balanced way to stay in practice, while remaining part of a collaborative and supportive team, we’d love to have a conversation.
