You’ll be working as part of a dedicated night team of experienced professionals, in an environment designed to deliver high-quality, consistent emergency care while being fully supported by a well-established hospital.
The rota has been carefully structured to give you genuine time to switch off and recharge.
You’ll work a 7 nights on, 14 nights off pattern, with shifts running from 6/7pm until the 8/9am in the morning depending on the day. In your second week, there is a light back-up on-call requirement to help cover unexpected absence, with time off in lieu returned in your next working rotation.
Overall, the role averages under 32 hours per week, offering a level of balance that’s hard to find in ECC - without compromising on salary or clinical exposure.
Based in the Drogheda hospital, you’ll have access to excellent facilities including digital radiography, ultrasound, a fully equipped in-house lab, modern surgical theatres, and dedicated hospital wards.
While CT and MRI are not on-site, the team works closely with UCD to ensure fast-tracked referrals when needed.
This is a busy, established hospital, so your caseload will be varied, interesting, and genuinely rewarding - ideal for someone looking to build depth and confidence in emergency medicine.
You’ll be joining a large, experienced, and approachable team, with a range of clinical interests across surgery, medicine, dentistry, and ECC.
It’s a collaborative environment where people support each other, share knowledge, and take pride in delivering excellent patient care. Development is actively encouraged, with funded CPD, support for further qualifications, and paid professional memberships.
This role is ideal for a confident, experienced vet who enjoys emergency work and is comfortable working independently overnight. You would need to be competent in small animal medical and surgical emergencies.
You must be VCI registered, and while ECC experience is an advantage, a strong interest and willingness to continue developing in this area is just as important. Due to the nature of the role, it’s not suited to new graduates or those requiring close day-to-day mentorship.
