We’re looking for a part-time Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team at White Cross Vets in Doncaster. Rather than having a rigid working pattern in mind, we’re open to talking about what shifts would work for you and how we can build the right role around the right person.
You might be a very experienced vet who still loves clinical work but wants a different pace or working pattern. Or perhaps you’ve built up a few years of experience and are ready to develop a particular clinical interest, work towards a certificate or take the next step in your career with support around you.
At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.
We currently have a five-vet team with a broad range of experience and clinical interests.
Within the practice we have certificate holders in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Dentistry, alongside particular strengths in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery and developing expertise in ophthalmology.
For someone wanting to develop further, there is plenty of experience within the practice to learn from and we’d be keen to support the right person in developing their own interests, including working towards a certificate.
Just as importantly, if you’re an experienced vet who has reached the point where you simply want to come to work, enjoy your cases and have a good team around you, that’s absolutely fine too.
We’re a busy first-opinion practice with a genuinely varied medical and surgical caseload.
We’re fortunate to be able to investigate and manage a large proportion of our cases in-house, including orthopaedic surgery, more advanced soft tissue cases, internal medicine and dentistry.
That means there are plenty of interesting cases to get involved with and opportunities to follow patients right through from their initial investigation to treatment and recovery.
• High-quality ultrasound with Doppler
• Dedicated dental suite
• Dental radiography
• Well-equipped surgical facilities
• An established orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical caseload
Our vets are supported by a strong and capable team of RVN's, VCA's SVN's and Client Care Co-ordinators, with nursing certificate holders in Anaesthesia and Emergency & Critical Care.
We’re also an RVN training practice, and the entire team enjoys sharing their skills with the next generation of future colleagues (many of which do end up coming back to work with us which we see as a compliment!)
It’s a team with a lot of knowledge and experience across different areas, and one where people genuinely help each other when things get busy.
That atmosphere comes through in our client feedback too, with clients regularly mentioning the kindness and compassion of the team, how well things are explained and the care taken with nervous or anxious pets.
One client perhaps summed it up best:
“For me it’s the staff that make the place so great.”
We think that says quite a lot about the practice we’ve built.
We have a separate staff area away from the clinical floor with sofas, a TV and Netflix, giving you somewhere to properly switch off during your breaks.
And, on the handful of days each year that Yorkshire provides suitable weather, there’s a picnic bench outside too!
There’s on-site staff parking, and the practice is on the edge of Doncaster with quick access to the A1, making it easily accessible from the surrounding area and with straightforward links towards Sheffield and Leeds.
We’re looking for someone with experience in first-opinion small animal practice, but beyond that we’re deliberately keeping an open mind.
You may be:
• An experienced vet looking to work fewer days or different hours
• Looking for a working pattern that fits better around family or life outside work
• A confident GP vet who wants to continue enjoying first-opinion practice without necessarily chasing the next career milestone
• A vet with a few years behind you who now wants to develop a particular clinical interest
• Considering a certificate and looking for a practice that can support you while you work towards it
We’re not looking for someone who necessarily wants to take on a TECA or be a European Diplomate in Cardiology, but if you have an area you love, we’d like to help you do more of it. More than anything, we’re looking for someone who is kind, capable, likes to laugh and enjoys working as part of a supportive team.
For the right person, we’re happy to have a genuine conversation about what part-time looks like for you rather than expecting you to fit neatly into a predetermined rota.
If you’re an experienced vet who still enjoys the job but would like to do it in a way that works better for your life, or you’re looking for somewhere you can take the next step clinically with support around you, we’d really like to meet you.
At inspiring vet care, we’re committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:
We’re committed to supporting our people through career development opportunities, wellbeing initiatives and access to world-class learning resources.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take the next step in your career, inspiring vet care offers the support, opportunity and community to help you grow.
