Ready for a fresh start?
If you are a newly qualified or junior vet looking to build your confidence in a genuinely supportive environment, Athlone Veterinary Hospital could be the perfect place to begin your career.
This role is ideal for graduates who want strong clinical foundations, patient mentorship, and the reassurance of working alongside experienced colleagues who enjoy teaching and supporting early careers. You will have the space to learn at your own pace, with access to excellent facilities, structured training, and a friendly, grounded team who want you to succeed.
Thinking about location too? Athlone offers affordable living, an easygoing lifestyle, and great transport links, with Dublin and Galway both around an hour away. With lakeside walks, outdoor activities, great food and a welcoming community, it is a brilliant place to settle into your first role
About the Role
This is a full-time permanent position only. The standard working pattern is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with one Saturday clinic every four weeks.
Out of hours is shared fairly across the team. This includes two nights on call per week, a 1 in 4 rota during spring, and a quieter 1 in 8 rota off season. Time off in lieu is provided for out of hours work.
The caseload is approximately 60 percent small animal and 40 percent large animal, offering excellent exposure without being overwhelming for a junior vet.
Salary is up to €45,000 depending on experience, and a clinic vehicle is available.
About Us
Athlone Veterinary Hospital is a well established mixed practice located in Bonavalley on the old Dublin Road. The hospital is fully equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, Idexx blood analysers, endoscopy, dental equipment, and modern small animal facilities.
You will be part of a friendly and collaborative team of four vets, two nurses, an ACA, a practice manager, and a receptionist. It is a genuinely supportive environment where questions are encouraged and junior vets are actively guided and developed.
