Portchester Vets has been proudly serving the local community for over a decade, building a reputation for exceptional patient care, strong client relationships, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. We are now looking for a confident and personable Veterinary Surgeon to join our close-knit team and contribute to the continued success and growth of the practice.
The caseload is predominantly cats and dogs, with the occasional rabbit, providing an enjoyable mix of consultations, medical work-ups, and surgery. While much of the workload is routine first-opinion practice, you'll be encouraged to investigate and manage cases thoroughly using a range of modern diagnostic equipment, including digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, K-Laser therapy, and an in-house IDEXX laboratory.
This role includes some sole charge responsibilities, making it ideal for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys clinical autonomy and decision-making while still benefiting from the support of an experienced team and established referral pathways. We pride ourselves on delivering continuity of care and building long-term relationships with our clients, allowing our vets to follow cases through from initial presentation to resolution wherever possible.
You'll be joining a dedicated and supportive team consisting of one Veterinary Surgeon, four RVNs, two Student Veterinary Nurses, and a fantastic Client Care Team who work closely together to create a positive and collaborative working environment. In addition, the practice has access to visiting specialists when required, ensuring both patients and clinicians benefit from additional expertise and support.
As a Primary Care Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload.
You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice. You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you.
• This is a full-time role of 38 hours across four days, with one in three Saturday mornings from 9am to 12pm.
• There are no out-of-hours or on-call requirements, and part-time applications are also welcome, offering flexibility to suit different lifestyles.
You are a confident and motivated veterinary surgeon who enjoys working as part of a team and is committed to delivering high-quality patient and client care. You’ll bring:
• A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
• A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
• Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
