Find your future with Heartland

The Heartland Vets family is growing, and we are excited to welcome a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team. This is a permanent opportunity to become part of a true mixed animal practice in the heart of Highland Perthshire. We are also open to considering a fixed term contract for the right candidate, offering flexibility depending on individual circumstances.

While our preference is for a Mixed Animal Veterinary Surgeon, we are also happy to consider applications from Small Animal Vets who feel they would be a great fit. Working across our two branches, you will enjoy the variety and scope of cases that mixed practice brings, with the full support of an experienced and collaborative team.

Rota patterns that work for you

The full-time hours for this role consist of 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, with a 1 in 5 out of hours rota (one weeknight per week and 1 in 5 weekends), with no additional Saturday mornings and a day off in lieu after your weekend on call. Full or part-time hours can be considered; however, participation in the 1 in 5 out of hours rota is essential.

We offer a flexible approach to working hours as we know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career, and we want to make it easy for you to strike the right balance. Many of our team already benefit from our flexible working approach and, although ideally we would prefer a full-time Veterinary Surgeon, we are happy to consider part-time hours for the right person.

About us

Both our branches are well-equipped with the usual tools including digital X-ray and ultrasound. We are also proud to offer equipment such as an Ovacyte faecal analyser, stance analyser, PRP therapy kit, brand new bull fertility testing equipment and motorised equine dental equipment, among many others. Across both practices we have a strong team of six vets, supported by three registered veterinary nurses, one student veterinary nurse and a Practice Manager.

We are a close-knit team that enjoys social outings as much as the time we spend together in practice, and we are fortunate to have a very friendly and loyal client base. Aberfeldy and Pitlochry provide a fantastic base to access the beautiful Scottish Highlands, with plenty of local walks, nearby Munros and opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as kayaking and paddleboarding.

Because our people matter

We recognise that our people are fundamental to the success of our business. Investing in our people, premises and processes is at the heart of what we do. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will benefit from -
