At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Plymouth Vets, part of the ivc, is looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and experienced team.

As a busy 24/7 veterinary hospital with three branch surgeries, this role offers excellent variety and exposure to a diverse caseload across multiple sites. As a trusted referral centre for local practices, including IVC Evidensia clinics, Vets for Pets and the PDSA, you'll benefit from a rewarding mix of first-opinion and referral work while enjoying strong continuity of care and the opportunity to see cases through from start to finish.

Enjoy a Diverse and Rewarding Caseload

This position is ideal for a confident GP vet who enjoys both consulting and surgery. You'll work with a varied range of small animal patients, with a good balance of consultations and surgical duties throughout the week. Our caseload extends far beyond routine procedures and includes orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic procedures, emergency and critical care cases, alongside everyday first-opinion work. We actively support vets in developing their clinical interests and will accommodate areas of passion wherever possible.

Purpose-Built Facilities Designed Around Exceptional Patient Care

Our purpose-built hospital has been designed to support high-quality patient care and provide an excellent working environment. Facilities include seven spacious species-specific consultation rooms, a large preparation area, three operating theatres including a dedicated orthopaedic theatre, a fully equipped dental suite, dedicated imaging rooms, five species-specific wards and an isolation ward. The hospital also offers dedicated office space, a veterinary library, welcoming staff facilities and a large boardroom used for regular meetings, CPD and training events.

Advanced Equipment at Your Fingertips

You'll have access to a wide range of advanced equipment including digital and dental radiography, CT, laparoscopic equipment, endoscopy, ultrasound and a fully equipped in-house laboratory, allowing for thorough case work-ups and excellent clinical standards.

Join a Highly Skilled and Supportive Team

You'll be joining a collaborative team of 14 Veterinary Surgeons, 25 RVNs and SVNs, alongside a dedicated Client Care Team led by our Practice Director. Our vets range from recent graduates to highly experienced clinicians with over 15 years in practice. The team includes certificate holders in exotics, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery and diagnostic imaging, with additional qualifications currently being pursued in dentistry. We also work alongside visiting cardiology and ophthalmology specialists, creating a fantastic learning environment.

Professional development is a key part of our culture, and support is available for further study and certificates. We would be particularly interested in speaking with vets who have an interest in cardiology or dermatology.

Working Pattern

Full-time hours across four days (typically 9am–7pm)
Part-time applications welcomed from 20 hours per week
1 in 5 weekend rota, Sunday emergency-only shifts
No additional out-of-hours requirements
No on-call commitments
