Salary up to £75,000 DOE
Are you a confident Veterinary Surgeon ready to step into a leadership role without giving up the clinical work you love? This is an exciting opportunity to join New Street Vets as our Lead Veterinary Surgeon, combining hands-on practice with the chance to shape and influence a supportive, experienced team.
A Varied Caseload That Keeps You Engaged
We are a busy small animal practice caring primarily for cats, dogs, rabbits and small furries, with the occasional chicken and a steady stream of local wildlife. The role offers a healthy balance between consultations and surgery, with flexibility to focus more on surgical work if that’s where your strengths lie. Our procedures are largely routine and dental surgeries, alongside ECC cases where required, and we are very open to supporting personal clinical interests and areas of development.
A Team Built on Experience and Collaboration
You’ll be supported by four RVNs, one SVN, three Veterinary Surgeons and an experienced Practice Manager, together, the team brings more than 108 years of combined clinical experience. If you’re considering further qualifications, we are happy to support certificate study aligned with your interests.
A Practice Investing in Its Future
Located in a converted house close to the high street, the practice offers a warm, community-focused feel and is due to undergo refurbishment shortly. Facilities include three consulting rooms, one of which is a dedicated RVN consult room, a separate X-ray suite with dental X-ray, theatre and prep area, an in-house laboratory and a brand-new ultrasound machine recently installed.
A Rota That Respects Your Time
The typical full-time week is 40 hours worked across four or five days, with a 1 in 4 Saturday morning rota from 9am to 1pm. There are no out-of-hours or on-call requirements, allowing you to enjoy a genuine work-life balance. Part-time applications are also welcome, with a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Lead, Inspire and Still Be a Clinician at Heart
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work closely with the Practice Manager to guide the clinical direction of the practice. You’ll mentor and support the veterinary team, driving high standards of patient and client care while remaining actively involved in clinical work. This is an opportunity to influence, motivate and help shape the future of the practice without stepping away from the consult room or theatre.
We’re looking for a confident clinician, ideally with a surgical bias, who either brings leadership experience or is ready to grow into it. Formal management experience isn’t essential; what matters most is your ability to inspire others, uphold excellent clinical standards and embrace the responsibility of leading a team.
