Salary up to £75,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready to take the next step into leadership while still enjoying hands-on clinical work? This is an exciting opportunity to join New Street Vets as our Lead Veterinary Surgeon, guiding a friendly and highly experienced team in a beautiful market town setting.

You’ll be supported by a welcoming and collaborative team of four receptionists, five nurses, three veterinary surgeons and an experienced Practice Manager, all dedicated to delivering exceptional patient and client care. Together, the team brings over 108 years of combined clinical experience, creating a genuinely supportive environment where knowledge is shared and everyone pulls together.

New Street Vets is proud to be part of IVC Evidensia, a global network of over 2,500 clinics and hospitals across 20 countries, with around 41,000 colleagues caring for approximately 25,000 animals every day. United by the shared purpose of Healthy Animals, Happy Owners, we are passionate about championing long-term animal health and welfare, and we invest in our people to help them thrive both professionally and personally.

Our practice is located in a charming market town within the Blackdown Hills, just a short five-minute walk from the town centre and conveniently situated next to the train station, offering direct links to London and Exeter. With excellent road connections via the A30, A303 and M5, as well as dedicated on-site parking, commuting is straightforward whether you’re travelling locally or from further afield.

You’ll work in a well-equipped practice with three consulting rooms, a dedicated X-ray room, a theatre and prep area, an in-house laboratory and a brand new ultrasound machine installed in 2025. The clinical environment is designed to support high standards of care and allow you to fully utilise and further develop your skills.

This role can be full or part time, with a typical full-time week of 40 hours and a 1 in 4 Saturday morning rota, with time off in lieu. There are no out-of-hours or on-call requirements. We understand how important balance is, whether that’s family commitments or simply having more flexibility in your week, and we’re very happy to discuss a rota pattern that works for you.

As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work closely with the Practice Manager and wider leadership team to shape and deliver our clinical vision. You’ll mentor and inspire our vets and nurses, ensuring that every patient and client receives the highest standard of care. This is a genuine opportunity to continue doing what you love clinically while influencing, guiding and motivating those around you.

We’re looking for a confident clinician, ideally with a surgical bias, who is either experienced in leadership or keen to develop in this area. Formal management experience isn’t essential; what matters most is your enthusiasm for supporting others, driving clinical standards and helping to shape the future of the practice.
