Senior Large Animal Veterinary Surgeon
Location: O’Shea, Bramley, Breen - Wexford
Salary: Up to €80,000 DOE
Hours: 40 hours per week plus participation in the on-call rota with TOIL for work done
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Large Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our progressive mixed veterinary practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident large animal vet looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and well-equipped practice.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering exceptional veterinary care to our farm animal clients while supporting the continued development of our large animal services. You will work with a friendly and experienced team committed to providing high clinical standards and outstanding client care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality veterinary care to dairy, beef, sheep and other farm livestock.
Carry out routine and emergency farm visits, including calvings, lambings, sick animal investigations and herd emergencies.
Perform fertility work including pregnancy diagnosis, fertility examinations, reproductive management, synchronisation programmes and herd fertility planning.
Deliver herd health planning, preventative healthcare programmes, vaccination protocols, parasite control and biosecurity advice.
Carry out TB testing in accordance with Department of Agriculture regulations.
Perform a wide range of surgical procedures including caesarean sections, displaced abomasum surgery, dehorning, castrations, wound repairs and other field surgeries.
Diagnose and treat medical and surgical cases using clinical examination, laboratory testing, ultrasound and other diagnostic techniques.
Build strong relationships with farm clients by providing practical advice on nutrition, calf health, mastitis control, lameness prevention, fertility and herd productivity.
Prescribe and dispense medicines responsibly in line with current veterinary legislation and antimicrobial stewardship principles.
Maintain accurate clinical records, certification and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in the out-of-hours emergency on-call rota.
Work closely with the wider veterinary, nursing and support teams to ensure excellent patient and client care.
Support the continued growth of the farm animal side of the practice through exceptional service and client engagement.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have VCI registration (or eligibility to register) and the right to work in Ireland, significant experience in large animal veterinary practice, strong farm animal medical and surgical skills, experience with fertility work and herd health planning, confidence in handling emergency and routine farm animal cases independently, excellent communication and client relationship skills, a proactive, organised and collaborative approach, full clean driving licence, ideally registered PVP for TB testing.
