A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a small animal vet to join our friendly and supportive team at MBM Vets. We are seeking a dedicated, caring, and motivated vet to fill this role, and in return we offer great support, exciting career development and a healthy work-life balance.

About MBM Vets

MBM Veterinary Group is a large, friendly, long-established practice, close to the beautiful Ayrshire coast with convenient road and rail links to Glasgow and central Scotland. We have practices in the towns of Kilmarnock, Mauchline, and Beith thus covering a wide area within Ayrshire. We have dedicated teams providing small animal, equine, and farm veterinary services. The area provides an excellent base for those enjoying outdoor pursuits including equine sports, water sports, cycling, hill-walking, and golf.

We have all the usual gadgets including digital and dental radiography, multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring machines, ultrasonography including colour doppler, endoscopy, ECG and electrocautery. Additionally, we run a comprehensive in-house laboratory that includes: FNA cytology, full haematology and biochemistry, as well as Idexx Catalyst for in-house cortisol, CRP, fructosamine and progesterone. We also carry out in-house urinalysis which includes dipstick, specific gravity, microscopy and urine protein:creatinine ratio. All of this is facilitated by a daily dedicated lab nurse allowing efficient and rapid work-up of cases in-house.
We are also a VetsNow OOH host practice, meaning that patients requiring 24-hour hospitalisation can be kept in-house without the need for organising transportation of potentially sick animals or those still recovering from anaesthetic.

Our team and culture

Working in our small animal team across the three branches we are currently a team of 20 full and part-time Veterinary Surgeons, including a cardiology certificate holder and two others studying certificates in surgery and in medicine, as well as plenty of proud general practitioners.
We have 16 full and part-time Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Animal Nursing Assistants, and 8 Reception team members.

We care deeply about the quality of care and welfare of our patients, and pride ourselves in being able to offer a wide range of medical and surgical services “in-house”, while maintaining excellent relationships with referral partners for those trickier cases.

We are seeking a confident and competent vet to join our amazing close-knit team and continue to deliver the high-quality service to our clients and patients that we pride ourselves in.

What the role entails

You will mainly be based out of our Kilmarnock branch, but shifts at our branches in Mauchline and Beith may be required

15-minute consultations as standard, with 30 minutes for new patients, bandage changes or trickier cases
Shifts are a mixture of consult-only, surgery and consultations or hospital work

We expect all of our vets to be confident with consultations, routine surgery and in-patient care, however we would happily accommodate anyone wishing for a consult only role

All patients should have full clinical notes to ensure smooth case management and best patient-care practice

Client communication is key, and owners should be kept informed about all aspects of the care of their pet at all times, with dedicated time being made for ongoing cases

We expect each vet to present a professional approach and smart appearance

You should have an understanding and comply with your legal obligations in relation to prescription safe keeping and supply of veterinary medicinal products.

You are responsible for maintaining personal CPD as per RCVS guidelines, with development in specific areas of interest being encouraged

We are happy to consider flexible working options

Our people are at the heart of everything that we do, that’s why we know that work-life balance is vital in supporting our people to be their best selves. Our flexible approach to rota patterns and working hours offers a balance that works around you and your lifestyle, no matter what stage you are in your career.

Ideally, we have up to 40 hours per week available, across 4 or 5 days with a 1:3 Saturday rota (8:00am-1:00pm) and no OOH, but should you require less hours we will also consider this.

Because our people matter!
