RVN needed for award winning, fabulous practice in Biddulph, Staffordshire
Our nursing team have a variety of interests and experience including feline medicine, wound management, anaesthesia and nutrition. We like to support learning, development and CPD.
About the Team
One of our vets has a PGCert in surgery, one provides acupuncture, and two are studying for certificates (ophthalmology and cardiology). Our vets have a wide range of experience from 4 to 23 years! We are innovative, caring and listen to our team.
We are a cohesive and supportive team - whether brainstorming on how we can help a patient, celebrating our successes or understanding when things are tough. We value and listen to the opinions and experience of all our team members. Our clinical meetings allow everyone to have an input and we act on what we discuss.
We like to involve ourselves in the local community and have taken part in mud runs to raise funds for a local mental health unit and Vetlife. We also visit local schools and one of the directors is a STEM ambassador helping promote the sciences and supporting schools and community groups. We are a host practice for Pet Blood Bank.
About Us
We’ve done away with full time and part time - we have vets, nurses and receptionists who are all equally part of the team, working a varying number of days and hours. Whatever pattern you need, for whatever reason, we can try to work with you.
We value your skills - you won’t be working on reception or filling out insurance forms, your skills are too important! We rely on our nurses to nurse - blood samples, catheters, X-rays, dressings, lab, medical management, consulting and of course anaesthetics. The nurses also have their own dedicated consulting room.
About the Position
All options for hours considered – 28-40 hours a week over 3, 4 or 5 days. No OOH, 1 Saturday in 3 (8am-1pm)
Salary £26000-£31000 40hr FTE
We want to invest in you - don’t be surprised when we ask you what CPD you want to book - we are all learning and developing.
We value your time - our aim is to finish on time, every time, and on the rare occasion it doesn’t happen, or you work into your lunch, we will of course pay you for it or give the time back.
We know most people don’t want to do OOH or night checks, so we don’t ask you to. Saturdays are 1 in 3 alongside 2 receptionists, a vet, and one other nursing team member (student, VCA or RVN) - and are only 8am - 1pm. Our out of hours is covered by VetsNOW.
We think you deserve to have proper breaks - 2 staff rooms, outside staff area, pool table, massage chair, espresso machine, velvetiser hot chocolate machine, toastie maker if you want to stay in the practice on your break - or head out for a walk, cycle or run and you can use the staff shower when you get back! Our second staff room also has a private room behind it – perfect for naps, quiet time, breastfeeding mums (we are very proudly family friendly), or any other reason you need some space.
Our fabulous RVN Kirsty is moving closer to home – but she would love to tell you herself about all the wonderful things Blue House has to offer!
"I have been extremely proud to work for Blue House for the past 3.5 years. The pets and their owners are treated with great care from the moment they are greeted from reception, all the way through to the vets and nurses during consults or whilst they are staying with us as in-patients. The building is spacious, modern, and has windows throughout! (I'm aware this seems a strange thing to comment on, but it makes a difference, I promise!). The garden to walk the dogs in is a great bonus too! Also, at the other end of the building is the kitchen where you can grab your lunch in peace.
Due to myself and partner relocating, I will be leaving Blue House as the travel is no longer do-able for me. I'll be very sad to leave such a wonderful team behind who have now become like a second family to me. Anyone who joins the Blue House team is fully supported, listened to and valued. The management team are amazing and always there to help if/when it's needed. My confidence as a nurse has grown massively in the time I have spent at Blue House and this is thanks to the support I have been given, the day-to-day laughs I've had and actually enjoying being at work. I genuinely believe this is a great place to work and would be happy (albeit envious!) to share my experiences and answer any questions from anyone interested in the role of RVN."
