We are seeking a knowledgeable, confident Head Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Alma Vets on a full-time basis.
 
The role will involve working closely with the Head Vet and Practice Manager to help drive the vision of establishing Alma Veterinary Hospital as one of the top first-opinion practices in the country. This position focuses on leadership, maintaining high standards, and driving performance to ensure the practice operates efficiently and profitably, while fostering a positive environment for both the team and clients. We are also seeking a Head Nurse committed to driving and leading nurse-led consultations.

How You’ll Make a Difference 

 
 
As a Head Veterinary Nurse, you will provide senior clinical and professional leadership for the nursing team, overseeing all nursing aspects of the practice and supporting the delivery of high-quality patient and client care.
 
You’ll be responsible for setting and maintaining nursing standards, leading clinical governance and quality improvement activity, and developing a capable, confident nursing team. Working closely with the wider practice leadership team, you'll play a key role in shaping culture, performance and ways of working. 
 
The role offers flexibility, with 38 hours per week spread across 4 or 5 days, with shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 7:00pm. Occasional night shift cover may be required to support the wider team.
 
General responsibilities include:
 
  • Lead, manage, and support the nursing team to maintain high standards of patient and client care
  • Collaborate with the Head Vet and Practice Manager to deliver the practice’s vision and improve workflows 
  • Oversee rota planning, staffing levels, and day-to-day team coordination 
  • Manage staff performance, including mentoring, training, and professional development 
  • Ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, and health & safety standards 
  • Oversee inventory, equipment, and stock control to support efficient practice operations 
  • Drive financial efficiency through effective resource and cost management 
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment

    You are an experienced and confident Registered Veterinary Nurse with strong leadership capability and a passion for clinical excellence. You'll bring:
     
  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS 
  • Significant experience in clinical practice with advanced medical and surgical nursing skills
  • Proven experience of leading, mentoring and developing nursing teams
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and professional standards
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
