Priory Vets, Cardigan is seeking a skilled and dedicated Hoof Trimmer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the hoof health of our cattle, ensuring they are healthy, productive, and comfortable. This position requires a strong knowledge of hoof anatomy, common hoof diseases, and treatments, along with excellent customer service skills to work closely with clients and their herds.
Key Responsibilities:
Hoof Trimming & Cleaning: Regularly trim and clean the hooves of cattle to promote hoof health and prevent lameness.Treatment & Care: Diagnose, treat, and wrap hooves that are damaged, injured, or infected.Client Collaboration: Work with clients to identify cattle needing routine maintenance or treatment, and provide advice on best practices.Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all cattle trimmed and treated, including details of treatments and any observations made during the process.Supply Management: Ensure a well-stocked supply of medications, foot wraps, and other necessary treatment supplies.Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate hoof trimming chutes safely and efficiently, and perform basic repairs and maintenance on equipment as needed.Expert Knowledge: Stay informed on hoof diseases, nutrition-related hoof issues, and medication withdrawal times and regulations.Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with herd managers, nutritionists, and veterinarians to ensure holistic care of cattle.

Our dedicated large animal premises are equipped with an in-house laboratory, pharmacy, lambing facilities and an examination area. The site boasts ample parking space enabling easy access for clients with trailers.
The perfect fit
Proven experience as a hoof trimmer or similar role.In-depth knowledge of hoof anatomy, common diseases, and treatments.Strong mechanical skills for equipment operation and repair.Ability to maintain detailed records and manage supplies effectively.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Physical stamina and the ability to handle large animals safely.Certification in hoof trimming is a plus, but not required.Level 4 qualified preferred but not essential. Comfortable with lone working with the opportunity to work alongside a vet tech if needed.
Working pattern
This is a full time role working 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday – Friday.
