Athlone Veterinary Hospital is looking for a confident and organised Veterinary Receptionist to join our close-knit team, playing a vital role in keeping the practice running smoothly and ensuring every client feels supported from the moment they walk through the door.
This is a varied, people-focused role where no two days are the same - ideal for someone who enjoys multitasking, building relationships, and being part of a supportive team.
The Role & Working Pattern
This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week across five days. You’ll work one in four Saturday and 1 in 4 bank holidays, with a day off during the week in lieu. There is no out-of-hours work, and no Sundays, allowing for a healthy and predictable work–life balance.
What the Role Involves
As our Veterinary Receptionist, you’ll be the first point of contact for clients, providing a calm, professional and friendly welcome in a fast-paced mixed animal practice. Your responsibilities will include managing appointments using our booking system, handling incoming calls and queries, processing payments and end-of-day cash procedures, and supporting the smooth daily operation of the practice.
You’ll also assist with stock control and deliveries (including light lifting), maintain high standards of cleanliness across front-of-house areas, and support the wider team with general administrative tasks. Building product knowledge will be part of the role, helping you confidently assist clients with queries and recommendations.

Athlone Veterinary Hospital is a busy, well-established mixed animal practice located in the heart of Ireland. We provide high-quality veterinary care to both small and large animal patients, supported by modern facilities equipped for medical care, surgery, emergencies, and farm calls.
Our team is made up of four Veterinary Surgeons and two Veterinary Nurses, working together in a collaborative, friendly and supportive environment. We pride ourselves on strong teamwork, clear communication, and a shared commitment to excellent patient and client care.
About You
We’re looking for a proactive and trustworthy individual who enjoys working with people and animals alike. You’ll have previous experience in a receptionist or customer-facing role, be comfortable using IT systems and Microsoft Outlook, and confident handling payments and discussing fees with clients.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, high standards of organisation and cleanliness, and a genuine passion for animal welfare are all essential. Most importantly, you’ll be a team player who’s happy to support colleagues and contribute positively to the practice atmosphere. Social media training or experience would be a strong advantage.
