We’re looking for a friendly, organised Veterinary Receptionist to join our team for a 6-month contract. This is a front-of-house role where you’ll be the first point of contact for our clients and their pets, setting the tone for every visit.
If you enjoy working with people, thrive in a busy environment, and take pride in delivering excellent service, this could be a great fit for you.
Your days will be varied and people-focused, with plenty of interaction and responsibility. You’ll be welcoming clients, managing arrivals, and handling phone calls and queries in a calm and professional way. You’ll take care of appointment bookings and diary management using our practice system, Vetscope, as well as processing payments and ensuring everything balances at the end of the day.
Alongside reception duties, you’ll support the wider team with general administration, help with stock and deliveries, and keep the front-of-house area clean, organised, and welcoming. It’s a role where attention to detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure really make a difference.
This role runs Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm with a one-hour break per day. There is also a one-in-four Saturday rota, with a day off in lieu provided, and no Sundays or on-call work.
O’Dowd Veterinary is a long-established mixed animal practice based in Ardee, Co. Louth, just off the M1. Our team includes eight veterinary surgeons, six veterinary nurses and four support staff, all working together to provide a high standard of care across both small and large animals.
We’re proud of our friendly, supportive culture and the strong relationships we’ve built with our clients over the years. Teamwork, compassion and a positive working environment are at the heart of everything we do.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering great service. You’ll be organised, reliable, and confident using computer systems, with the ability to manage a busy front desk and handle client queries with ease. Experience in a veterinary setting or a similar customer-facing role would be an advantage, but it’s not essential as full training will be provided.
What matters most is your attitude, your attention to detail, and your willingness to be part of a supportive and collaborative team.
We offer a competitive salary alongside a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing and development. These include:
Leave: Annual Leave, Birthday Leave, Paid Maternity, Paternity, Bereavement, and Sick Leave
Wellbeing: Cycle to Work Scheme, EAP Access, Free Flu Jabs, Discounts (Retail & Virtual Gym), & Access to Company Programmes (LGBTQ+, Wellbeing, etc.)
Career Development: Career Progression, Leadership Academy, Annual Pay Reviews
Financial Support: Employer Pension Contributions, Discounted Staff Pet Veterinary Fees
If you’re looking for a varied, rewarding role in a welcoming and supportive practice, we’d love to hear from you.
