We are looking for a Veterinary Receptionist to come and join us in our mixed practice in Mid Ulster, Maghera-Dungiven and Kilrea.


The successful candidate will be client-focused and desire to go the extra mile for our very loyal and valued client base. A good level of computer literacy and initiative is also essential, along with the ability to work as part of a close-knit team and independently. We are looking for a flexible full-time person who is looking for a career in a fast paced client care reception and administration role. You must have a passion for customer service and be open to developing within this challenging, busy and diverse role.

As part of the client care team, you will represent the first impression that a client will experience. All creatures great and small come through our doors. You will have a very diverse role dealing with both farmers and pet owners as we are a mixed vet practice.

You will need to demonstrate:


  • Excellent face-to-face customer service experience.
  • An excellent telephone manner.
  • A proactive and can do attitude and problem solving skills.
  • Competent computer skills with the confidence and ability to learn to use a new practice management system.
  • An ability to take ownership of, and pride in your work.
  • The ability to work to a consistent high standard in a high pressure environment.

  • Ability to speak confidently about financial accounts including debt.
  • Proven customer care experience.

  • Your duties will include


    Dealing with a high volume of varied calls every day: emergencies, routine, prescription requests etc, Feed messages/emergencies effectively to the vets, Provide clients with clear, professional, and sympathetic information, Convert enquiries into appointments to support pet healthcare, Efficiently manage the appointment diary, Record and follow up on enquiries promptly, Conduct appointment callbacks to ensure customer satisfaction, Reschedule missed appointments, Educate clients on practice services and promote healthcare plans, pet insurance, and promotions, Take responsibility for personal development through training, Contribute to marketing efforts and business success, Attend team meetings, dispense medications, and update records, Handle stock displays, Maintain stock levels and prepare client packs, IT and computer literate, use of Open Office, Outlook and Google maps, Handle client payments and queries, light credit control, Preparing prescriptions, dispense medication as per requested by vets, Filing, franking/post, laboratory report booking and other general office duties as required, Some cleaning duties.

    About the rota


    The role offers an average of 35 hours per week to include Saturday shifts. There is an expectation to cover sickness absence and holiday periods when required, toil will be offered as compensation. Initially this will be a fixed term contract however continuous employment for the candidate who is committed to animal care, client care and who is a team player will be considered.
