About the role
We’re looking for a Commercial Vet to join our UK & Ireland Commercial and Procurement team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced veterinary surgeon ideally with a small animal (but not limited to) background who is interested in applying their clinical expertise in a broader, commercially focused role.
In this position, you’ll act as a clinical authority within the commercial function, supporting procurement decisions, supplier relationships and practice-facing initiatives. You’ll help ensure that purchasing decisions are clinically appropriate, commercially sound and aligned with the needs of our practices.
This role is predominantly remote (c.95%), and is well suited to clinicians looking to transition out of full-time practice while staying close to clinical decision-making.
What you’ll be doing
Clinical insight & procurement support
Provide clinical expertise to support supplier negotiations, contracting and product selection
Contribute to global and local procurement initiatives
Evaluate the suitability, safety and value of clinical products
Monitor the veterinary supply chain and identify emerging supply or cost risks
Support cost-saving and standardisation initiatives across practices
Exceptions & product guidance
Provide clinical oversight of requests outside the Buy List
Advise practices on clinically appropriate, cost-effective alternatives
Balance clinical need with commercial considerations
Identify recurring exceptions and compliance trends
Stakeholder & operational support
Act as a key liaison between Procurement, the Clinical Board and practices
Support out-of-stock management and alternative sourcing
Assist with onboarding new clinical products outside tender cycles
Create clear guidance and communications for practices
Participate in internal and supplier meetings
Expect a varied working week and plenty of opportunity to apply clinical judgement in a new context.
About you
Essential
Qualified Veterinary Surgeon and Member of the RCVS
Strong clinical experience (small animal preferred)
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Confidence handling complex or sensitive discussions with practices and suppliers
Desirable
Experience as a Clinical Director, Lead Vet or in a senior clinical role
Exposure to procurement, commercial or supplier-facing environments
Understanding of veterinary pharmaceutical and consumables supply chains
Comfortable working with data (e.g. Excel analysis)
You don’t need previous commercial experience we welcome applications from vets transitioning directly from practice but you should be curious, pragmatic and keen to influence decisions at scale.
