Can you walk us through your career journey to becoming a vet surgeon?
My veterinary path began at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, where I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2014.
Immediately after graduating, I embarked on an intensive eight-year tenure as a Veterinary Clinician at Petcare Animal Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. During this period, I refined my clinical skills across a diverse caseload—managing emergencies and supporting pet owners through some of the most challenging moments in their animals’ lives.
Motivated by a desire for continuous professional growth, I relocated to the UK in 2023, joining IVC Evidensia as a Trainee Veterinary Surgeon. My dedication, expanding skill set, and patient-centred approach propelled me into a full Veterinary Surgeon role by October 2024, following my successful completion of the MRCVS licensing examinations—a significant milestone in my international veterinary career. I now work concurrently with Three Rivers Veterinary Group.
What first inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
My professional ethos reflects a lifelong passion for animal well-being and a commitment to enhancing the lives of pets through expertise and unwavering dedication to veterinary excellence.
This passion is particularly strong in emergency and critical care, as well as surgery—two areas in which I continue to expand my interest and proficiency.
What’s been one of your proudest achievements since joining the business?
Clinical and surgical growth since qualifying will be my greatest achievement, and this is kudos to every team and individual I have been opportune to shadow and the amazing team I work with daily for their trust and the wings they give me to fly. With them, excellence stops being an aspiration and starts becoming the standard.
Tell us about the team at Three Rivers Vets!
The entire team are remarkable professionals whose excellence elevates everyone around them through unparalleled support, unity, and dedication.
With a diverse roster of clinicians—including surgical specialists, feline advocates, and experienced general practitioners—Three Rivers offers a strong foundation for collaborative medicine and continued professional development.
What does a typical day look like for you? What kind of cases do you see at the practice?
While no day in veterinary practice is ever truly typical, my work is characterised by variety, complexity, and meaningful engagement with patient care.
At Three Rivers, I manage a wide range of companion-animal cases, including medical consultations, surgical cases, routine preventive care. But if I had to choose, surgery remains my greatest passion - the theatre is definitely my happy place.
What advice would you give to graduates or early-career professionals looking to follow a similar path?
For new graduates and early-career veterinarians, my message is to embrace mentorship, pursue excellence, and value teamwork.
It is really important to learn from experienced clinicians, commit to high clinical standards and recognise the powerful impact of a strong team culture.
I believe that success in the profession is shaped not only by skill, but also by collaboration, humility, and continuous learning
And finally, when you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time or unwind?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife, Elizabeth, and our son, Israel—a grounding and joyful balance to the demands of clinical practice. I am also a football enthusiast and an avid supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
