Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Alexander Vets in Barrow?

I've been working at Alexander Vets in Barrow for about three years now. My journey into the animal industry started when someone I know told me there was a vacancy here, and it felt like the perfect step into my animal care career.

I've always had a love for animals, and working with them daily and supporting their career was really interesting to me. Every day is different, and I find joy in working with a variety of animals with different health issues. It's truly fulfilling to be part of a team that cares so well for each patient and witnessing them go home healthier is a great pleasure.

What aspects of your job do you find most rewarding at Alexander Vets?

My favourite part must be caring for animals during and after their operations. From the moment they come into surgery, and undergo procedures, to the point where they head back home—it gives me a profound sense of achievement.

How would you describe the work environment at Alexander Vets for someone considering joining your team?

If you're considering joining us, you're in for a treat! It's a welcoming, friendly, and laid-back place. Despite being a small team, we work exceptionally well together. Plus, the location is fantastic with several beaches and the Lake District for scenic walks.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with customers, and why do you believe communication is essential in your line of work?

Communication is key! Interacting with our pet owners is a crucial part of my role, I really enjoy the connection with the people who entrust us with their pets.

Can you share a memorable experience from your career so far?

I felt proud to support a family whose pet was at the end of life. The family couldn't bear to be present during euthanasia, so I promised to cuddle their pet until he fell asleep. Providing comfort in those final moments meant a lot to the family, and I was grateful to be there for them.

What do you do outside of work to unwind?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my partner, three teenage children, and my furry friend, Reggie. We explore various activities in the area, and one of our favourite pastimes is walking around Grizedale Forest, which offers spectacular views just 20 minutes away from where I live.

I love meeting up with friends and exploring new pubs and bars. It's a great way to unwind.
