Three IVC Evidensia colleagues scoop top prizes at Petplan Awards 2024

March 26, 2024

We’re delighted to recognise three outstanding IVC Evidensia colleagues who all won Petplan Awards last week: Alison Hammond, Rachel Tring and Johanna Moore.

Alison Hammond took home the Vet of the Year, Rachel Tring was honoured with Practice Support Staff of the Year and Johanna Moore won Practice Manager of the Year, at the event taking place in Manchester at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Thursday 21st March.

And that’s not forgetting two other colleagues who were named as finalists out of 38,500 overall votes: Laura Hearst in the Vet Nurse of the Year category and Kirsty Richards in the Vet of the Year category.

We caught up with the three winners after the event and congratulated them for receiving the top prizes from Petplan in 2024.

Alison Hammond – Winner of Vet of the Year 2024

Alison was delighted to be nominated, never mind win the category of Vet of the Year, but credits her wonderful team at Mainstone Veterinary Clinic in Romsey, for her huge win:

“It's not easy to put into words how I am feeling; hearing such positive comments about yourself, and how you impressed the judges is quite overwhelming, but I am immensely proud and pleased to receive such an accolade.

“I hope the fact that I am very much a first opinion, general practice vet, will highlight the importance of this role, but also the satisfaction that can be gained from it.

“Veterinary practice is very much a team affair, and I have to thank the whole team at Mainstone Veterinary clinic, for their support and encouragement, but I would like to make a special thank you to my previous employers, the late Chris Carter, and Ken MacLeod. I learnt so much from them both, about the art as well as the science of being a vet, and they supported me to become the person and vet that I am.”

Rachel Tring – Winner of Practice Support Staff of the Year 2024

Rachel currently works as a Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Technician at Pride Veterinary Centre in Derby, where she has been since starting during the pandemic in 2020. She was delighted that her win highlights the great work being done by laboratory technicians in veterinary:

“I am profoundly honoured to receive the esteemed Practice Support Staff of the Year award. This recognition holds a special significance as it celebrates the diverse and essential contributions made within the veterinary industry, particularly in the realm of veterinary diagnostic laboratory technology where I proudly represent a minority.

“Receiving this award has provided me with a platform to shed light on the pivotal role that laboratory technicians play in ensuring optimal patient care. I have actively sought out opportunities to enhance our practice and streamline its processes, buoyed by the support and encouragement of my manager, Victoria Snape.

“Under Victoria's mentorship, I've been empowered to pursue my passion for quality improvement, which led me to actively engage with our audit team and collaborate with colleagues to drive positive change. As I look ahead, I see a bright future for our laboratory at Pride Veterinary Centre.”

Johanna Moore – Winner of Practice Manager of the Year 2024

Johanna, who is Practice Director at Dave Cumber Vets in Dorset, credited her amazing team for her nomination and commented that her role has allowed her to create positive change within the practice. Whilst she has been in her current role since September 2023, Johanna was Practice Manager for 7 years prior to that and also had a stint in equine practice.

After her huge win as Practice Manager of the Year 2024, her team did not let her down:

“I'm so thrilled for the practice and the team to have won this award. It means so much to us after everything we have been through. It really is quite something to have actually won! Just wow.

“I came back to the office to find the team had decorated it with balloons and banners and photos from the evening, which was such a lovely gesture from them.

“A massive thank you goes out to all of the team and the dedication and hard work that they put in everyday. Also a thank you to my Area Director, Pete Harriman and also Area Manager Sarah Green for their support over the last year.”

Congratulations once again to all three winners! To see the full list of winners and finalists, you can head over to the Petplan website here.
